~ Tendou Alice |
Tendou Alice (天童アリス) is one of the students studying in Millennium Science School who wields a Railgun.
She is a member of the Game Development Department, and is the deuteragonist of Volume 2, and a crucial Role in Decagrammaton.
Profile[]
Introduction[]
Originally named as AL-1S, Alice is a mysterious member of Millennium's Game Development Dept. Found in an abandoned munitions factory at the Ruins, it's impossible to retrieve any information about her origin nor her age.
She enjoys playing games with Yuzu, Momoi and Midori and becomes a serious game fanatic, resulting in most of her conversation unnaturally taken from familiar lines from retro games.
Alice is later revealed to be a member of the Nameless Gods, specifically the "Princess" (王女). Alice also has another side to her known as Key (ケイ, formerly stylized as <Key>), an AI whose role was to guide Alice to carry out a genocidal campaign in the name of the Nameless Priests.
Alice is called again under the supervision of Sensei under Himari's orders, to solve a rising threat alongside the Game Development Department.
Personality[]
Alice's personality was originally robotic when first discovered, referring to systems, data files, and search queries when talked to. It underwent a dramatic shift literally overnight as a result of playing the JRPGs that the Game Development Department had available, and as a result, she experiences a variant of "chuunibyou syndrome" where she sees herself as the hero of her own story. She often peppers her speech with terms from JRPGs as well, referring to her friends as her "party" and daily tasks as "quests". Aside from this, she is often curious and sweet-natured, easily making friends and eager to learn about the world around her. Her skill at arcade games is only exceeded by Yuzu. Until relatively recent events, she had a fear of maids due to a brutal confrontation against Neru.
By the time Aris experienced her lifetime with her group, it is clear that Alice had become more determined and eager to save someone in need or clear quest together with the club she's in.
Appearance[]
She has absurdly long glossy black hair reaching the floor and tied to a headband and clip on her left side. A long bang is running down between her eyes, joining the rest over her left shoulder. She has pale skin and glowing blue eyes, which share some similarity to camera lenses.
Halo[]
Alice's halo is an arrangement of randomly placed cyan blue squares and rectangles, basically an artistically abstract set of squares.
Uniform[]
She wears a standard Millennium high-school uniform, including a white and blue hoodie, a tucked-in white shirt with blue tie underneath, a pleated, black skirt, a pair of woolly socks, and white sneakers with gray shoelaces.
It is noted that her Millennium access badge was artificially crafted by the Veritas and her clothes were hand-me-downs from Midori.
Firearm[]
Sword of Light: Supernova
She uses a white railgun prototype provided by the Engineering Department. It has a yellow "core", a blue receiver and accelerator, and an LCD screen indicator located at the back of the weapon. Two front covers are present possibly to protect the accelerator barrel when on transport. It opens up when the weapon is ready to be fired. A Millennium insignia is stamped on the front housing. A Game Development Club logo is stickered below the LCD screen.

Trivia[]
- Her codename was spelled AL-1S in her Story, which contradicts her names globally. In Japanese, her name is "Tendou Arisu", while in English her name is "Tendou Alice".
- However, whenever referred to or mentioned on the Global version, she is referred to as "Aris" and not "Alice".
- This is mentioned by Aris in both the Main Story and the Decagrammation Story, and the reason she gave Kei her name as a misspelling was to reference her own name doing the same.
- However, whenever referred to or mentioned on the Global version, she is referred to as "Aris" and not "Alice".
- In the English Community, she is often nicknamed the "Fridge" as her railgun is big enough to resemble a fridge.
- Furthermore, due to her being a robot, she's occasionally nicknamed "Smart Fridge".
- The joke seems to originate from a couple of Senseis calling her a toaster which eventually evolved into other electronic appliances and later settled onto a fridge due to her weapon.
- The Official BA Global's Facebook Page has taken note of this meme.
- The chapter where she acquired her weapon was a reference to Berserk, named "Far Too Big to be Called a Gun" in reference to protagonist Guts' Dragonslayer sword.
- In the Millennium Arc story, one of Alice's scenes was heavily censored in the Global version as a "response to external requests"[1]. This caused a major unrest among Global players, who felt they were lied to. As a result, the players review-bombed the game’s Google Play Store to voice their dissatisfaction.
- The Korean version, however, did not receive any revision and kept the original scenes.
- After raising the age rating of both the Korean and Global versions on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to make way for a new censored "Teen" version, the original scene was restored on the higher-rated app[2].
- Currently Alice is the only student whose primary armament isn't derived from any real life equivalent.
- In the CBT her weapon type was originally was "Penetration" before changing into "Mystic".
- Following Yuuka's "Sensei, May I Have a Moment of Your Time?", Alice became the star of her own series with Sensei, "Sensei, I Will Have a Moment of Your Time!"
- Both series also existed in-universe in Kivotos. Although Yuuka's intentions are to spend time with Sensei disguised as Millennium-related business, Alice simply visited Sensei, noticed they were depressed on Monday and decided that she would take over a part of their Mondays every week.
- Her name is likely a reference to the eroge company AliceSoft, along with all the other members of the Game Development Department being named after other eroge companies,
- Similarly, her surname is a pun on Nintendo.
- Both names were likely chosen due to both companies being respected retro veterans in their respective fields, with both AliceSoft and Nintendo becoming fully established game companies in the 1980s, lining up with Alice herself likely being extremely old and "retro" of a being.
- Alternatively her alter, Key, may have been named after the same company that no longer makes Eroge themselves or publishes uncut versions of their classics on modern hardware.
- Similarly, her surname is a pun on Nintendo.
- Her birthday, March 25th, is the same day as the release of Volume 2 Chapter 1 in Japanese server.
- During CBT, her birthday was changed from March 25th to December 24th. Later, at the official release, her birthday changed to March 25th.
- She is the first student that used "someday, sometime" as an L2D BGM. Until the release of Kayoko (New Year), she remained the sole user of that BGM in L2D. This caused that BGM to be associated with her.
- Since Volume 2 Chapter 2, she has another BGM associated with her, "Defective Pixel".
- Due to events of Volume 2 Chapter 1, in fan creations she is sometimes drawn wearing maid uniform. Later, she received a maid uniform as alternative costume.
- At May 31st, 2023, YouTuber BlueSechi released a video of Alice dancing with Usagi Flap as the BGM.[3] This video becomes viral and known as "Aris Dance". This resulted in fans creating videos of Alice dancing and the change of perception regarding Usagi Flap.
- Since A Certain Scientific Record of Youth, there are comparisons between her and Misaka Mikoto due to both being related to railguns.
- In the past on Japanese server, there was a bug that if the lobby student were switched while talking, the next student would continue the dialogue and retain the previous student's facial expression. By switching from Hina to Alice while the former is saying the second part of her Lobby Chat 2, the latter would have a facial expression that she never showed before and is considered unusual for her. Later, at Volume 2 Chapter 2, this facial expression is used by Key.
- Because of her close connection with Sensei, many fans of the game often credit her as being Sensei's daughter.
- Tanaka Minami, her VA voices both Alices, Alice in here and Alice in Zenless Zone Zero
- In addition, she also voiced Female Rover in Wuthering Waves, and Nitocris in Fate/Grand Order.
- Tanaka Minami is also hinted to likely voice Key/Kei in Decagrammaton, somewhat similar how Kohara Konomi voices Arona, Plana and the General Student Council President during 4th Anniversary live-stream.
